Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has invested in Dutch firm Limach, a manufacturer of electric excavators for the domestic market. A press release from the company says as it works on its commitment to sustainable mobility and accelerating shift toward electromobility.
Electric Special Technics B.V (brand name Limach) offers customized electric wheeled and crawler excavators to the Dutch market.
Limach’s establishment comes with the purpose to develop construction equipment with an electric drive.
The company has been seeing growing demands from customers in the Netherlands ever since the development of its first demonstrator excavator in 2017.
The innovative company uses proven Li-Ion battery technology to develop excellent electrical construction machines using conventional Volvo CE products as a base.
Each machine is custom-made at our production facility in Ede in the Netherlands and delivered according to customer specifications.
This majority investment by Volvo CE in the Dutch company Limach complements its long-term electrification roadmap. While at the same time providing an opportunity to swiftly broaden its electromobility portfolio.
Meanwhile, Limach’s range extends from the compact E18.3 electric mini excavator to the E140.1. It is able to cover an operating range of 1,810kg to over 14,000kg, thus complementing Volvo CE’s existing electric range.
This will add to the five electric compact machines currently available. Thus, there will be further expansion of what is already the widest range on the market.
Together, they offer customers a variety of solutions to meet their emission reduction ambitions.
Additionally, the IC engine on select excavators see replacements with a Limach developed electrification kit.
“Working together, and with our combined customer base, opens opportunities for co-learning and expanding experiences of these types of solutions, as we continue driving the transformation towards sustainable power sources,”
-Thomas Bitter, Head of Technology at Volvo CE
Despite the majority investment, Limach will continue to operate as a standalone company.
