Danish company Unicon looks forward to placing a big order for Volvo electric trucks

Danish company Unicon is looking forward to placing an order for Volvo’s 11 FM Electric trucks. This comes after the company gained good experience with a Volvo FE Electric truck. This will be the largest single order for its electric trucks from a private firm for Volvo, according to a press release.

Unicon is Denmark’s oldest as well as the largest producer and supplier of ready-mixed concrete. It has 35 plants and employs more than 400 people throughout the country. Additionally, it has its own fleet of 195 trucks.

Both the companies agreed to build a partnership to develop complete electric truck and body solutions for the concrete industry.

The electrification of trucks from the concrete sector is among the most complicated. This is mostly because the loads are heavy and require continuous mixing. So there will be a lot of learning and development from the partnership beneficial for an entire industry, commented Volvo Trucks MD Denmark Peter Ericson.

“With the new electric truck mixers, we are ready to support the requirements for emission-free construction sites in Denmark, which we see from the City of Copenhagen, as well as an increasing number of contractors and builders,” comments Christian Elleby from Unicon.

Unicon is part of Aalborg Portland Group, owned by Cementir Holding of Italy. It intends to cut CO2 emissions by 30 percent by 2025 as against 2019. Also, the company has clear plans to make its mixer truck fleets completely emission-free in 2035.

A large number of cities are restricting heavy diesel vehicles to curb pollution. Electric trucks will have an increasingly crucial role to fill in the gap in the future.
